SENSITIVE FILES NEED TO BE LOCKED DOWN
Information security is an extremely important aspect of keeping your building and your employees safe. Our data and information are becoming more and more important as employees and customers use passwords on multiple websites and multiple accounts. A breach of data from your company can be a major burden to employees and customers, and can also breach their privacy which is becoming a bigger and bigger issue every day. Sensitive files must be protected to ensure that private personal and corporate information remains private.
Keep Physical Files Secure
If you still use physical files that contain sensitive employee and customer information, these files must be kept safe from tampering, theft, and disaster. Losing all your files in a fire can be almost as disastrous as losing them to theft. If you do lose sensitive customer and employee information, you must alert them immediately and get ahead of the problem. Don’t hide it to avoid embarrassment, the problem will rarely go away and may get worse.
Digital Sensitive Files are Also Important
Digital files are just as important, if not more important, than the physical files in your shop, store, office, practice, etc. While physical files may be easier to steal through brute force, digital files can be stolen from anywhere in the world and you may never even know that you’ve been compromised. Sure, it takes an extremely rare skill set to access digital files, even if they’re unprotected, but those skills can often be utilized anywhere to attack you, which makes security difficult.
If your files are stored in the cloud and be accessed via internet, then you need to make sure they’re protected. If you have files on a public server that can be accessed from inside the building then you need to protect that as well. Disgruntled employees can and have caused serious damage to coworkers privacy by accessing, stealing, and releasing sensitive information.
Conclusion
If you have sensitive information about employees or customers, make sure it’s protected everywhere that it exists, physically or digitally. If you don’t know how to best protect it, then contact a security expert because personal information is extremely important to protect.
