WHY REPLACE USABLE ROOFING MATERIAL?
In a typical roof replacement, the decision is made because the existing roof is leaking or failing in other ways. This means the roofing material is no longer usable. But is it all unusable? Rarely will an entire roof fail at once. You’ll have patches of the roof that have failed, while other areas are still good for several more years. Replacing your roof leads you to tear off good, usable roof simply because other areas are failing. This is very inefficient and is a problem we are trying to solve with our RCR system. What materials do you have to replace in a roof replacement and how much will that cost you?
Insulation
As we said here, when you replace your roof using traditional methods, you may often have to replace wet insulation. Most likely, all of your insulation is not wet, but only the areas where the roof is failing. Yet when you replace your roof, if you start tearing out insulation, you’re probably going to tear it all out and put in new insulation. There’s nothing wrong with new insulation if the old is failing or wet. But if the insulation is dry and still meeting your needs, this is extremely wasteful. A roof that is 10% wet means 90% of your insulation is wasted. Traditional roof replacement means you wasted all that insulation and wasted money buying new.
Roofing Material
In the same way as insulation, all of your roofing material is probably not bad. But many times, it is all torn out whether it needs to be or not. When the roof is being replaced, it is common to just get rid of all the old and replace it completely. Again, what a waste! You’re paying to tear out good roofing material, wasting the remaining useful life of that roofing material, and paying to bring in new material that you didn’t really need. That’s a triple threat of waste.
Avoiding Waste During Roof Replacement
Our Silicone RCR system prevents you from wasting roofing material and insulation. We go over top of the existing roof and preserve what is underneath. Even if you have wet insulation, we have roof vents that allow you to dry the insulation without replacing it. Our system saves time, money, and maximizes the life of your roof. Silicone is a truly sustainable option for your aged roof to save you money!
Conclusion
Replacing your roof and tearing off mostly-usable material is a huge waste. It’s bad for the environment, drags out the duration of the project, and costs you more money. Don’t waste precious resources throwing away good roofing material! Restore your roof rather than replacing it.
