For many building owners, a white roof is ideal for its “cool roof” qualities. Others, however, may want to color some of their roof for either aesthetic or technical reasons! If you missed last week’s blog, we shared some details about why you might want colored silicone, how its applied, and its composition. If you’ve ordered PM silicone before, or seen our color chart, you’ve probably noticed we have custom colors available upon request. This week we will be answering some frequently asked questions surrounding our custom color silicone!
Do custom colors function the same as the standard colors?
Our custom colors can be applied the exact same way as standard colors (sprayed or roll applied). Additionally, you will still see the benefits of the seamless membrane, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability as our white silicone. The main thing to note is that the darker the custom color, the fewer UV rays it reflects. Many building owners value the LEED credits and energy efficiency of a bright white roof. Other building owners might value aesthetics or what matches their building more.
How long will it take to arrive?
The typical wait time for a custom color PM silicone order is 4-6 weeks. There are many factors that go into this, but the most important one is the color matching process. Our lab works diligently to create the closest color match to the sample provided by the customer. Some colors are trickier than others to match which can prolong the process. Our chemists mix a combination of colors together in the lab and examine the color outside to how it will look in natural lighting as it cures. As you can imagine, the back and forth with many different custom color orders can be time-consuming. The upside to the somewhat prolonged order process is that we know you will be satisfied with your custom silicone!
How can I order a custom color?
Ordering a custom color is just like placing an order for any PM product. For first time customers, reach out to your Regional Manager to get set up as a new customer and go over the details or ordering. For preexisting customers, you can email or call your Regional Manager to tell them about the job specs and what color you’d like matched. After you’ve discussed it with your sales rep, send a color swatch into our PM office and the lab will get to work designing the right color match for you.
Is there a minimum quantity for a custom color order?
Yes. We require a 30 gallon minimum for all custom color orders. This is due to the additional time and effort required to make the color.
