As we noted in our last blog post, there are multiple reasons why someone would want a silicone roof. For some, the look and benefits of a white roof are a top priority. For others, incorporating some color to their existing roof adds an aesthetic appeal. And still others choose to use custom and premium colors for technical reasons. This week, we are looking at another kind of custom silicone – metallic silicone.
Why Metallics?
The HS 3230 series is designed to imitate the appearance of a metal roof and improve the aesthetics of any roof. Metallic pigments are infused into the silicone to enhance reflectivity (as compared to dark-colored coatings). It is comparable to our HS 3200 Series High Solids Silicone Roof Coating in terms of performance. HS 3230 series provides many of the same benefits: resists weathering, aging, oxidation, wind-driven sand, rain, UV radiation, effects of ozone, and extreme temperatures.
What colors are available?
Our premium metallic silicone is available in 3 standard colors:
How long will it take to get my coating?
Typically, if all pigment and materials are in stock you will have your material in 6 weeks. This longer lead time is due to the fact that we bring in metal flakes and then carefully mix them into the silicone. It’s a time-consuming process but it’s what gives the silicone its beautiful shine. However, if materials need to be ordered it could take as long as 8 weeks. For the most part, you can expect to have your metallic coating in about 6 weeks.
What is the best way to apply HS 3230 Metallic Series?
We recommend applying HS 3230 with an airless sprayer. If you choose this method, the pump should have a minimum output rate of 3 gallons per minute. Another application detail that differs from LS 2200 and HS 3200 application is the pressure of the spray gun. The spray gun should be high pressure (5000 PSI) with reverse-a-clean spray tip. For more information on spray equipment, contact Christian Roberts, VP of Technical Services.
Can I apply metallic coating directly onto my roof?
No. The HS 3230 series is designed to be a topcoat over another silicone coating, either HS 3200 or LS 2200 series. Additionally, HS 3230 series should not be applied greater than 5 mils to allow the metallic pigments to provide maximum reflectivity.
