To Spray or Not to Spray…
As discussed in last week’s blog, we are looking at the benefits of spraying vs rolling PM silicone roof coating. Although both methods are a great way to apply our material, there are unique benefits to each. In the interest of saving you time, we chose our favorite three benefits to spraying silicone, instead of the entire list.
1) Lower Silicone Cost
How does spray applying affect silicone cost, you ask? It’s simple economics – buy in bulk! When spraying PM silicone, one of the key benefits is the ability to use 55-gallon drums or 250-gallon totes of silicone. When you buy in these large quantities, like most products, you’ll see a discounted rate. Additionally, spraying out of a drum or tote makes for pretty simple work. You just put the intake tube of the sprayer directly into the receptacle and spray from there.
2) Lower Labor Cost
Another benefit to spraying is the amount of people it takes to do the job. Most studies show that it will take a 3-person spray crew the same amount of time to finish a job as a 6-person rolling crew. This is especially true for large jobs where large numbers of buckets are used. You also don’t need staff transporting buckets up onto the roof when spraying. You can spray while the drum/tote is on the ground saving you the time and hassle of lugging numerous buckets up onto the roof! When spraying PM silicone, all you need is a sprayer, a hose attendant, and a ground attendant.
3) Smoother Finish
The final benefit to spraying we will discuss in this article is the pristine finish spraying PM silicone will offer your client’s roofs. Although rolling PM silicone offers a nice, smooth finish, spraying adds a more refined look to the coating. Since rollers are textured, you can sometimes see some texture in the finished project. For most, this is a non-issue, but if your client wants a completely smooth and “blemish-free” roof, spraying may be the best option. It is also important to note that when using our metallic silicone, spraying is the option you will want to use to offer the best sparkle.
